Hal Crocker, photographer, keeper of the largest private archive of motorsports images in the USA

In more than 40 years as a motorsports photographer, Hal Crocker has walked thousands of miles lugging heavy equipment, braved blistering heat, freezing cold, rain, wind, and endured obnoxious officials. He has even been run over by a speeding race car and it all began at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

The year was 1970 and this race was Crocker’s introduction to big time professional sports car racing. He didn’t know it then, however, it was also the start of what would turn out to be his life’s work as a motorsports photo-journalist and only the second raced he ever attended. The first was a Formula 5000 event at Sebring where he met Jo Hoppen – Porsche’s North American Racing Director. After seeing his work, Jo hired Hal to cover the 24 Hours of Daytona with the main focus being on the Gulf- Wyer Porsche Team.
